LATELY AT BROOKLYN BALLET

Recent news from the studio and the stage!

NEW TO THE BB FAMILY

The first Afro Brazilian ballerina to reach the rank of principal dancer with the Dance Theatre of Harlem, we welcomed Bethania Gomes into the Brooklyn Ballet family last month, teaching morning company class and joining our faculty for our upcoming summer classes.

CELEBRATING NATIONAL BALLET DAY

Last month, we had a special opportunity to host a National Ballet Day event at PS 115, in partnership with Councilwoman Mercedes Narcisse of the 46th City Council District. PS 115 students watched the professional ballet dancers of Brooklyn Ballet perform our What is Ballet? program as well as participate in an interactive dance class. In the fall, PS 115 will be one of Brooklyn Ballet’s newest Elevate school partners, and we are extremely excited for the development of this new partnership and the expansion of our Elevate program.

FROM BROOKLYN TO NIGERIA

Through the initiative spearheaded by Brooklyn Ballet teacher Kat Wildish, students from Leap of Dance in Lagos, Nigeria join our morning classes via Zoom, fostering inspiration and connection across continents! Committed to providing dance education to all, especially those who cannot afford it, this partnership exemplifies the transformative power of dance to transcend boundaries and uplift communities worldwide.

BB YOUTH ENSEMBLE HEADS TO BAM

A cast of 12 dancers from our Brooklyn Ballet Youth Ensemble dedicated the month to preparing for their BAM debut at the NYC Council Speaker Address! They rehearsed choreography by Brandon Woods and received coaching from Joseph Heitman, both Brooklyn Ballet faculty members. We are immensely proud of our students, who continue to show incredible growth and dedication, rising to every occasion and opportunity!
