Injury Prevention Workshop
Join Harkness Center for Dance Injuries' athletic trainer, Joshua Honrado, DAT for a fun, informative, and interactive injury prevention workshop, Sunday, April 16 at 12-1:30pm at Brooklyn Ballet!
Participants will learn the foundations of injury prevention including injury facts, nutrition basics, hydration, rest, cross training, periodization, training considerations, sleep hygiene, and stress management.
The workshop will also include valuable self-release techniques that can be performed with Gaynor Minden's roller kit. Participants are encouraged to bring their favorite foam roller and massage tools.
Brooklyn Ballet and non-Brooklyn Ballet students, age 12+ are welcome. Non-Brooklyn Ballet students, email [email protected] to register.

Masterclass with Amanda Smith
We're excited to host a fun and interactive Masterclass with Amanda Smith on Sunday, January 8, 1-3:30pm at Brooklyn Ballet.
Amanda Smith, Brooklyn Ballet Guest Artist and Dance Theatre of Harlem Company Member, dazzled audiences and won our hearts as the Sugarplum Fairy in this year's production of The Brooklyn Nutcracker!
What to Expect
- The masterclass will include a ballet class, variation, and Q&A
- Brooklyn Ballet and non-Brooklyn Ballet intermediate to advanced ballet students (age 12-17) are welcome to attend.
What to Wear & Bring
- Students should wear form-fitting ballet attire with ballet slippers.
- Pointe shoes are not required.
- Students dancing on pointe should bring their pointe shoes.

A re-imagined holiday classic, The Brooklyn Nutcracker fuses ballet, hip-hop and a myriad of world dance genres to create a new tradition for today’s audience. New York’s only culturally inclusive production, The Brooklyn Nutcracker transforms familiar Nutcracker characters and scenes to represent the diverse traditions and vibrant culture of Brooklyn. From the landscape of the old Dutch Brooklyn to the iconic Flatbush Avenue, the production is fresh and full of virtuosity and celebrates the borough we call home.

Masterclass with MOVE |NYC|'s Chanel DaSilva
Chanel DaSilva, Co-Founder & Co-Director of MOVE |NYC|, is a native of Brooklyn, NY and a multifaceted artist whose work reflects her deep connection to the transformative power of the arts. Chanel believes deeply in creating more pathways for access and opportunities for artists who have been historically underrepresented and overlooked, primarily women of color. Chanel is a widely sought after educator and mentor, having taught master workshops and seminars across the nation for institutions such as The Juilliard School, SUNY Purchase, Harvard University, and NYU. In 2015, alongside her long-time friend and business partner, Nigel Campbell, Chanel co-founded MOVE |NYC|, a multi-pillared arts and social justice organization with the mission of creating greater equity and diversity in the dance field and beyond.

CASTING DANCERS FOR 2 NUTCRACKER PRODUCTIONS
Brooklyn Ballet and City Ballet of Boston are seeking 4-5 experienced male and female dancers for The Brooklyn Nutcracker in Brooklyn, NY and City Ballet of Boston’s Urban Nutcracker in Boston, MA.
Performances and tech/dress are December 6th-11th in Brooklyn, NY and December 13th-26th in Boston, MA
Both productions represent the people, cultures, and dance styles of our communities. Diverse dancers of all ethnicities are strongly encouraged to audition. All dancers must have strong classical ballet technique. Proficiency on pointe required for women.
LIVE & IN-PERSON AUDITION:

Alex Sopp and Austin Wulliman of The Knights will play lively and delightful music for the two stars of classical music’s upper register: violin and flute! Works by Telemann and Bartok.
GLEICH DANCES - Maxfield Haynes
Innovative choreographer Julia Gleich will present, P73 #1, a contemporary solo, en pointe, for Maxfield Haynes.
Girl Be Heard will present an excerpt from their 2021 production The People vs. Justice.

Jazz duo Malcom Parson and Killian Venman will perform a set for cello and percussion.

MEET THE CULTURE WINDOW ARTISTS: APRIL 16 (Part II)
As the founder and and Artistic Director of Gleich Dances, Julia Gleich has been making dances for 25 years and is motivated by working in collaboration, and by illuminating the relationships between the traditional and the contemporary, scrapping aesthetic labels. After 15 years living and teaching in London, she returned to New York City and premiered the full evening ballet Martha (The Searchers) in collaboration with Guggenheim Fellow Elana Herzog.
On April 16, Gleich Dances presents excerpts from a contemporary ballet, See Through, created in collaboration with visual artist Karen Schifano.
Girl Be Heard is an organization that develops, amplifies, and celebrates the voices of young women through socially conscious theatre-making.
On Culture Window opening night, they will present an excerpt from their 2021 production The People vs. Justice.
