Brooklyn Ballet Incubator

Seeking new, emerging, and diverse choreographers!

Brooklyn Ballet is seeking new, emerging, and diverse choreographers for the Brooklyn Ballet Incubator, September 2023, and annual Spring Season 2024.

For 20 years Brooklyn Ballet has radically reimagined who makes ballet, who performs ballet, and who gets to enjoy ballet. We built a vibrant organization inspired and driven by our belief in the transformative power of dance. Our repertory, guided by Artistic Director Lynn Parkerson, expands the art form of ballet in unique directions, incorporating multi-cultural dance forms and interdisciplinary influences. We created a vibrant and inclusive organization. At the core is a deep commitment to making dance accessible to all through public and community performances and robust educational programs. Each year Brooklyn Ballet directly touches the lives of more than 20,000 people through an innovative range of work including, Brooklyn Ballet Company, School, and Elevate. Brooklyn Ballet Incubator

September 5-8 & 12-15, subject to change

Brooklyn Ballet Incubator is a 4-day, process-based dance workshop for Brooklyn Ballet dancers and professional dancers, age 18+. It is an opportunity for dancers to play, learn, and grow in an inclusive and collaborative environment. Brooklyn Ballet Incubator is a process-focused workshop, not end-product focused.

Brooklyn Ballet Incubator is an opportunity for Brooklyn Ballet’s Artistic & Leadership Team to meet new choreographers for future collaborations and/or potential commissions. While participation in Brooklyn Ballet Incubator isn’t a commission offer, choreographers selected to participate in Brooklyn Ballet Incubator will be considered for commissioned work for Brooklyn Ballet’s Spring Season 2024.

Brooklyn Ballet Incubator Choreographers will lead one (1) 4-day workshop of 2.5 hours (10am-12:30pm or 2-4:30pm) daily classes that include: improvisation, collaborative exploration, phrase work, and choreography.

The choreographer’s rate for one (1), 4-day workshop is $1,000.

This program welcomes applications from parents, with a childcare subsidy of $500 provided by Liza Yntema, who has also generously underwritten one choreographer’s stipend for the next two years.
